The Four C's of Diamond Selection
- C ut - A well faceted diamond
will reflect the diamonds most brilliant sparkle. If the stone is not cut properly, the diamond will
loose its beauty and value.
- C olor - There are many colors
to diamonds, some include red, pink, blue, green and canary yellow which are "fancy" diamonds (very rare.)
To grade the color you want to start with D - continuing through the alphabet, D being the most colorless.
- C larity - The purer a diamond is, the more
brilliant it is and the more valuable it is. To see a diamonds unique characteristics you will need to use a 10x
magnifying loupe. The inclusions can block the path of light which interferes with its clarity.
- C arat-weight - When weighing a diamond
each carat is equal to 100 points, so a .75 carat diamond, a 75 point diamond and a 3/4 carat diamond are the same.
